Today I finally got to the beach. They always say a dip in the salt water will do you some good, and I think it did. I went down to Magens Bay in the late afternoon, which is my favorite time of day to go. It’s free after five, but also I have good memories of going with my friend Kurt after work back in the day.
The water was much warmer than it has been the last few times I’ve come. It was nice to swim and get my head under the water. I feel like the salt water helps pull the phlegm right out. Also, every time I go into the ocean after a long time away, it feels like baptism. I don’t think I’ll ever go into the ocean in New England. How can I when I grew up with water so delicious. Look, here are my toes.
I was walking around and being all touristy, taking pictures and gawking at pelicans and the like, when I ran into my friend David. He was walking with another friend who I didn’t recognize at first. It was Christian, who I haven’t seen in years – I didn’t know he was back on island. It was nice to run into them and we spent a few minutes catching up and walking the length of the beach kicking a soccer ball. It’s so nice to be back here where that kind of mellowness is normal.
While we were walking, a big boat pulled into the bay. It’s not until it pulled all the way in that I realized how big it really was. I haven’t often seen boats that size in Magens Bay, so I made sure not to waste any time.
They didn’t pick me up. They must not have seen me.
